 In 2008 Entrepreneur Barbara Holliday started Flappers Comedy Club & Restaurant (100% Woman Owned) along with a co-founder, a little bit of money and a really BIG dream of owning a Comedy Club and creating a solid comedy community in Burbank. Between risking her home as collateral, putting in all of her savings and borrowing from friends and family, she got the final financial boost she needed by getting an economic redevelopment grant from the City of Burbank.  It was then that the big dream finally manifested in 2010 and two clubs were born; one in Claremont & another in Burbank, CA.  Owning two clubs was a lot, and after her parents both passed, she wanted less stress and more time to focus on just the Burbank club,  so she closed Claremont in 2018, and in 2022 bought out her co-founder, and 15 years later her Burbank dream is alive and vibrant, and has since hosted some of the most famous names in the comedy business.  Recently the club has been reinvigorated with a fresh new 1920’s prohibition style design including a Secret Bookshelf door in the Bar.  The club is also a full-service Restaurant and has a delicious and simple American menu that boasts Fresh Wood-Fired Pizzas, Steak & Salmon, Burgers, Nachos, and a delicious dessert menu.  Among the comedians who have graced the stage at Flappers include Jay Leno, Jim Jeffries, Bob Saget, Conan O’ Brien, Sarah Silverman, Jimmy Brogan, Margaret Cho, Bill Burr, Ray Romano, Brad Garrett, Maria Bamford, Gabriel Iglesias, Kira Soltanovich, Joel Mchale, Tony Baker, Jerry Seinfeld, Joy Koy, Tiffany Haddish, Christopher Titus, Josh Blue, Dana Carvey, David Spade, Laurie Kilmartin, Nate Bargatze, Paul Rodriguez, Carol Montgomery, Brian Kiley, and Carol Leifer just to name a few.  

Alongside creating, developing and owning Flappers Comedy Club & Restaurant Barbara Holliday stayed very busy mentoring, managing and training new comedians along the way, including Josh Blue, Drew Lynch, Samuel J Comroe and Taylor Tomlinson just to name a few and ended up creating one of the most accomplished Stand Up comedy schools in Los Angeles:  Flappers University: Where learning is a Joke.  In 2024, Barbara decided the school had grown by leaps and bounds and that it needed its own name and branding, so she created a new parent company called Acomedy Academy LLC  whose mission is to “help anyone and everyone find the funny inside themselves so that they can become happier healthier human beings.”   Whether you want to pursue a career in Stand-Up Comedy or simply build confidence and improve self-esteem, comedy training can help.  The school is dedicated to teaching authenticity and the ability to remain present and “in the Moment” onstage.  In addition to Barbara Holliday, the Instructors are not only veterans, but legends of the Comedy Industry such as Late Night Writer, Gabe Abelson, and one of the most Successful Female Comedians of all time, Wendy Liebman, Talent Agent, Adam Lieblein and more.  Acomedy Academy has developed its own courseware & methodology, that includes a completely interactive student experience.  The company also focuses on Corporate Teambuilding  with classes such as An Intro to Comedy Intensive, Fearless Communication and Captivating Presentations which are perfect for any business or manager that wants to improve their interpersonal communications.  Acomedy Academy is taking the comedy training world to a whole new level, including offering training in other Venues and cities including San Diego, Costa Rica, Malaysia and more.  Corporate clients include:  Kaiser Permanente, PRMG Mortgage, The Improv, Antelope Valley Charter Schools and more.
